Benjamin Bates, MD is an Instructor (Lecturer) of Medicine and Epidemiology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Rutgers School of Public Health. He serves as Co-Chair of the Cancer Special Interest Group (SIG) and a member of the International Steering Committee for ISPE’s Asian Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology. His research focuses on evaluating cancer treatments, care pathways, and health outcomes using large datasets (claims, registries, EHRs) and mixed methods. He leads NCI-funded work examining treatment disruptions and health outcomes among breast cancer patients during severe storms, with an emphasis on developing strategies to mitigate these disruptions.
Dr. Bates’ affiliations include the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, where he contributes to interdisciplinary health policy initiatives. His expertise bridges clinical medicine, epidemiology, and disaster health response. Current projects address climate-related health challenges in vulnerable populations, particularly through data-driven solutions.
