Dr. Benjamin Ajibade is an Assistant Professor in Mental Health Nursing at Northumbria University's Department of Nursing Midwifery and Health. As a Registered Nurse and NMC Teacher, he brings clinical expertise to his academic role. He holds a PhD in Nursing Studies and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. His innovative work includes developing the 'My Life Story' narrative tool for dementia patients and creating qualitative research methods using LEGO® Serious Play®.
Research focuses on dementia care for older adults, curriculum internationalization/decolonization, and equity in higher education. He examines how race, ethnicity, and disadvantage impact healthcare education and delivery.
Publications address culturally responsive nursing education, anti-racism in academia, barriers to postgraduate research for minority students, falls prevention in elderly care, and innovative pedagogical methods using LEGO® Serious Play®.
Awards recognize teaching excellence: Amazing Teachers Award (2015), Most Technology Enable Teacher nominee (2020), and Student Led Teaching Awards (2023, 2024). Dr. Ajibade serves as external examiner at multiple UK universities and welcomes PhD students and media inquiries.
