Bengt Persson

Bengt Persson is a Professor of Bioinformatics at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Uppsala University, and serves as Director at NBIS – National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden. His research spans computational biology, genomics, and molecular medicine, with a focus on cardiovascular diseases and genetic disorders.

Recent work includes:

• Transcriptomic and metabolomic studies in heart failure subtypes
• Computational analysis of dehydrogenase enzymes
• Iron deficiency pathophysiology in cardiac patients
• Development of bioinformatics infrastructure (e.g., ELIXIR-EXCELERATE, bio.tools registry)

His publications (2013–2024) reflect collaborations with multidisciplinary teams across computational biology, cardiology, and endocrinology. Current projects integrate genomic data with clinical outcomes in large patient cohorts.
