معرفی
Bengt Mannervik is a Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University, focusing on enzyme catalysis and glutathione transferases (GSTs). His research spans biochemical, medical, and biotechnological applications, supported by grants from the Swedish Research Council, Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation, and Swedish Cancer Society.
- Key Research Areas: Directed enzyme evolution, GST-mediated drug activation, bioremediation, and neuroprotective enzyme mechanisms
- Collaborations: National Research Center, Cairo, Egypt (rice stress resistance); studies on mosquito vectors for malaria/yellow fever
Research Applications: Mannervik’s work includes designing GST-antibody fusion proteins for leukemia treatment, identifying enzymes for dendrogenin A synthesis (tumor suppression), and targeting mosquito Nobo GST to block disease vectors. His group explores GST functions in steroid isomerization, pollutant detoxification, and cross-species enzyme conservation.
Scientific Trends: Recent publications emphasize in vitro evolution of GSTs for enhanced catalytic activity, structural analysis of active sites, and applications in cancer therapy, neuroprotection, and environmental biotechnology. Sub-fields include prodrug activation, ketosteroid isomerization, bioremediation, and molecular mechanisms of enzyme resistance.
Group Members: Includes PhD student Aram Ismail, focusing on enzymatic characterization and functional studies.
