R. Benedito Ferrao is an Assistant Professor of English and Asian & Pacific Islander American Studies at the College of William and Mary, with affiliations in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. His academic career includes postdoctoral research at La Trobe University (Melbourne) and teaching positions at UCLA, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

Research focuses on Afro-Asiatic cultural connections across Portuguese and British colonial contexts, with emphasis on race, gender, and transnational narratives. Curated the 2017 exhibition 'Goa/Portugal/Mozambique: The Many Lives of Vamona Navelcar' and published a companion volume. Scholarly work appears in Research in African Literatures, Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication, and Society and Culture in South Asia.
Publications also include creative non-fiction in The Wire, Mizna, and João Roque Literary Journal. Current research explores Indian Ocean slavery narratives and postcolonial literary memory.
