Benedikt Heckens is a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Bielefeld, affiliated with the Faculty of Sociology and Department 10 - Economy and Work. He is part of the Research Training Group "Cross-border Labor Markets: Transnational Market Makers, Infrastructures, Institutions" (GRK 2951), working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ursula Mense-Petermann.
Mr. Heckens' research focuses on Global Political Economy, Political Ecology, Industrial and Labor Politics, and Global Production Networks. His doctoral project examines the "Appropriation of Surplus Labor and the Régulation of Labor Regimes in Global Production Networks," with a specific case study on Volkswagen's Battery Production Network. His theoretical approach draws from Marxist, Feminist, and Decolonial Social Theories.

Mr. Heckens completed his MA in Political Science at the University of Kassel (2017-2022) and his BA in Politics and Economics at the University of Münster (2012-2017). Prior to his academic pursuits, he completed an apprenticeship as a Carpenter (2009-2012) and worked in freelance educational roles in political education (2020-2024).
