Benedict Holland

Benedict Holland is a Professor and Personal Chair in Violin at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later at the RNCM under Yossi Zivoni. As a renowned chamber musician, he co-founded the Matisse Piano Quartet and Music Group of Manchester, and currently performs with ensembles such as I Musicanti and the Victoria Quartet. He has extensive experience as an orchestral leader, having guest-led major UK orchestras including the Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and BBC Philharmonic. Until 2023, he was a violinist (and occasional violist) with the contemporary ensemble Psappha.

Holland prioritizes teaching, holding a professorship at the RNCM since 2016. He also instructs violinists at the Junior RNCM and delivers consultative classes on orchestral and contemporary techniques at Trinity Laban Conservatoire as a visiting artist. His instrument is a rare 1710 Rogeri violin.
