Benedict Bazyar-Gudrich

Benedict Bazyar-Gudrich is a Research Fellow at the Chair of Refugee and Migration Research within the Department of Sociology, Faculty of History and Social Sciences, Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Employed since April 2021, he serves as research associate and academic advisor for the MA Programme in Flight, Migration, and Society.

His research encompasses:

• Theories and history of racism
• Colonialism research (German colonial history, cultural history of colonialism)
• Postcolonial theory
• Post-migrant social analysis
• Historical migration research
• Sociology of knowledge

Specializing in anti-Muslim racism and media representations of Islam, his work critically examines discursive constructions of racialized knowledge.

Recent publications analyze German media reporting on Islam and migration, investigating how high-profile events like the Maria Ladenburger murder case and Cologne New Year's Eve incidents shape journalistic narratives through qualitative racism-theoretical frameworks.

Bazyar-Gudrich provides academic advising for the MA Programme and contributes to Federal Ministry of Education and Research-funded projects including "Diametrical Interpretations – Perspectives of Discourse-Shaping Actors on Islam Discourses in Post-Migrant Germany" (2021-2025) and prior research on media perceptions of Islam among politicians and journalists (2018-2021).

He actively participates in the Chair of Refugee and Migration Research, teaching seminars on migration sociology, racism research, and historical approaches to flight and migration since 2021.
