Benedetta Calandra is Associate Professor of History and Institutions of the Americas at the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Bergamo. She holds a PhD from Roma Tre University and an MA from the University of London. Calandra serves as the coordinator for selecting non-EU students for the Intercultural Studies in Languages and Literatures (ISLLI) master's program and is a member of the Landscape Studies for Local and Global Challenges Doctoral College.
Her research focuses on the history-memory relationship in democratic transitions of the Latin American Southern Cone, human rights policies, Cold War and cultural diplomacy, solidarity networks of political exile, and reproductive health rights in the Americas. Calandra has published extensively including five monographs, seven edited books and special issues, numerous journal articles, and book chapters across multiple countries including Mexico, the United States, Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, the UK, Israel, and Spain.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on Latin American history, particularly Argentina and Chile, with attention to democratic transitions, political exile, women's solidarity networks, and US-Latin American relations. Her work spans historical analysis, political science, and gender studies with a strong transnational perspective.
Calandra has participated as a speaker on television programs for RAI TRE-RAI STORIA and maintains active academic engagement through her membership in the editorial committee of AHILA (Association of European Latin Americanists), former position as Associate Fellow for the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Europe Bologna Center (2016-2018), and upcoming role as Visiting Professor at the University of Valparaiso, Chile (2025). She previously served on the Executive Committee of the Italian Society of International History-SISI (2018-2021).

Calandra teaches courses including History of North America, History of the Americas in Intercultural Processes, and History and Institutions of the Americas. She maintains regular office hours on Tuesdays from 14:00-15:00 at Piazza Rosate, office 309, and is available for student consultations via Microsoft Teams.
