Ben Watanabe serves as a Visiting Lecturer at Framingham State University with dual appointments in the Communication, Media and Performance Department and the Management, Business and Information Technology Department. With over 20 years of industry experience, he has held roles including newspaper reporter for Gannett and editorial content leader for the New England Sports Network (NESN), where he managed major digital transformations and co-launched NESN Bets.
His academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Arts from Temple University
- Master of Science from Columbia University
Watanabe's professional focus centers on sports journalism, media content strategy, and interactive journalism. Drawing from breaking news reporting and sports media expertise, he champions accessible communication through simplicity and conciseness. His recent work at NESN involved evolving content workflows for digital platforms and pioneering sports gaming content tailored to New England audiences.
Prior to Framingham State, he taught Interactive Journalism at Emerson College. He maintains that every individual possesses both the ability to write and a meaningful story to share, principles he integrates into his pedagogical approach.
