Ben Stucky is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science and Co-Chair of the Math and Computer Science Department at Beloit College. He holds a PhD from the University of Oklahoma (2019), an MA from the same institution (2014), a BA in Math/Computer Science from Bethel College (2011), and completed the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (2010). His teaching spans courses like Calculus, Linear Algebra, Topology, and Artificial Intelligence. He prioritizes inclusive education, aligning with Dr. Federico Ardila’s axioms to decolonize and demilitarize STEM fields.
Stucky’s research focuses on geometric topology, geometric group theory, combinatorial group theory, and theoretical computer science. He collaborates with Christopher-Lloyd Simon on projects like the pinning game and LooPindex Digital Catalog, exploring algorithmic complexity and topological structures. His work bridges pure mathematics with computational methods, emphasizing student involvement in open research questions.
Outside academia, Stucky volunteers in his community and enjoys skateboarding, music, and puzzle games. He advocates for critical thinking in technical education to address systemic inequities.
