Dr Ben Powis is a Senior Lecturer in Sport at Bournemouth University's Department of Sport and Event Management. He holds a First Class honours degree and MA in Sport and Society from the University of Brighton, where he also completed his PhD examining elite visually impaired cricket players' experiences (2016). His academic career includes roles at Solent University, Richmond American University London, and Brighton.
His research focuses on disability sport sociology, sensory experiences in sport, and qualitative methodologies. Key areas include visually impaired runners' sensory practices, disability cricket cultures, and classification systems in sport. He has published widely, including monographs Embodiment, Identity and Disability Sport (2020) and co-edited Researching Disability Sport (2022). His work addresses UN SDGs related to health, inequality, and inclusive societies.
