Ben Kirk is a Senior Lecturer and Collaborative Course Leader at Sheffield Hallam University, affiliated with the School of Sport and Physical Activity within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. He has been employed at the university since 2013, primarily teaching on the BSc (Hons) Physical Education and School Sport undergraduate program. Before joining academia, he held teaching roles in secondary and further education sectors in England.
Ben holds academic qualifications including a BSc (Hons), PGCE, MA, and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research interests focus on enhancing primary school physical education, particularly through the lens of specialist PE teachers and inclusive practices. He has presented work such as High-quality primary school PE: exploring the role of specialist teachers at the 2024 AIESEP Conference in Finland.
His publications address topics like the experiences of children with disabilities in PE, inclusion strategies in mainstream education, and outcomes of physical activity for young learners. He actively contributes to external governance roles, including serving as a school governor.
