Dr Ben Jones is a Lecturer in European Foreign Policy at King's College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He holds a PhD in European Studies (2018) from King's College, complemented by a BA in Politics from the University of Sheffield (1999) and an MPhil in History of Political Thought from the University of Cambridge (2000). Prior to academia, he worked in Brussels and London in roles including the European Commission, European Parliament, and as a Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Liberal Democrats.
- Research Focus: Neorealist theory applied to European military cooperation, sovereignty issues in defence alliances, and Franco-British treaties
- Affiliations: European Foreign Policy Research Group, EU Institute for Security Studies (as Visiting Fellow, 2011)
His recent publications analyze CSDP institutional dynamics, European defence market challenges, and transatlantic security dilemmas. Key contributions include foundational work on Franco-British military treaties and EU security policy evolution. Awards include the Young European Leader Programme and Visiting Fellow recognition.
Teaching responsibilities include International Relations and EU foreign policy analysis. He has advised EU policymakers on defence cooperation strategies and participated in high-level workshops, including a 2023 policy event with European political parties.
