Ben J Glasgow

Dr. Ben J. Glasgow is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He holds The Wasserman Professorship in Ophthalmology, an endowed chair position recognizing his significant contributions to the field.

Dr. Glasgow's research focuses on the biochemistry of the tear film, particularly tear lipocalin and its interactions with lipids on the ocular surface. His work spans multiple areas including corneal diseases, dry eye syndrome, orbital pathology, and ophthalmic oncology. Through extensive biochemical and clinical investigations, he has made significant contributions to understanding the molecular mechanisms of tear film formation and stability.

His research program, funded by NIH grants including R01EY011224 "Proteins in the Molecular Mechanisms of Tear Film Formation," has produced over 150 publications spanning three decades. Dr. Glasgow's work has particularly elucidated the role of lipocalin proteins in ocular surface homeostasis, tear film lipid dynamics, and the pathophysiology of dry eye disease.
