Ben Hughes serves as an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Society at the University of Bolton, with over 12 years of higher education experience. He teaches Masters programmes and Professional Doctorate courses while supervising PhD students within the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing.
His research centers on equity and social justice for marginalized populations, with specific expertise in homelessness, South Asian women's experiences, children and young people's welfare, and bereavement support systems. Key thematic areas include health inclusion frameworks, death anxiety manifestations, and culturally responsive care models—all examined through the lens of amplifying rarely heard voices in health and social care contexts.
Hughes actively collaborates with regional and national groups through co-production methodologies, emphasizing that sustainable societal change requires centering marginalized perspectives. His work bridges academic research with practical applications to advance fairer health and social care systems where all individuals are valued.
