Dr. Ben Gales is a Lecturer at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business, affiliated with the Department of Economics, Econometrics & Finance — Management. His expertise spans Economic and Social History, with a focus on sustainability challenges, resource utilization, and industrial development. He holds a visiting fellow position at the University of Maastricht's Sociaal Historisch Centrum Limburg and contributes to editorial and advisory roles in historical projects.
Research interests include the historical roots of Dutch sustainability, coal mining's socio-economic impact, and comparative analyses of energy and industrial systems. He collaborates with institutions like Eindhoven University of Technology and Netherlands Statistics (CBS) on projects like the 'Historical Roots of the Dutch Sustainability Challenge' (2011).
