Annette van den Berg

Dr. Annette van den Berg is an Assistant Professor at the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.), specializing in Microeconomics, Institutional Economics, and Corporate Governance. She holds a position within the Microeconomics and Institutional Economics department and contributes to the Institutions for Open Societies research area. Her work focuses on the effects of worker participation on firm performance, historical development of worker representation, and comparative studies on corporate governance in Germany and the Netherlands.

Research Interests: Her research explores institutional frameworks influencing labor-management relations, particularly the role of works councils in enhancing organizational performance. She has conducted extensive comparative analyses between Dutch and German systems, emphasizing trust and legal structures in employee representation. Her studies often bridge microeconomic theory with real-world governance practices, addressing how institutional designs impact managerial decisions and corporate outcomes.

Teaching: She coordinates courses on Microeconomics, Institutions & Welfare, and introductory Economics modules. Her pedagogical contributions include the PPE (Philosophy, Politics, Economics) program’s Microeconomics curriculum and thesis supervision.
