Ben Gaastra is a NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery at the University of Southampton, where he also serves as a Clinical Research Fellow. He holds a PhD in 'Outcome after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage' (2023) and completed neurosurgical training at University Hospital Southampton. His research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with aSAH through multi-omic analyses and clinical interventions. He is a founding member of the HATCH consortium and has received fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons, Society of British Neurological Surgeons, and others. His work has been published in Nature Reviews Neurology, Neurology, and Stroke.
Education: MB, BChir from the University of Cambridge (2013). Professional Training: Academic Foundation Programme in neurosciences, neurosurgical training at University Hospital Southampton. Grants include support from Wessex Medical Research and Rosetrees Trust. Research collaborations include Professors Ian Galea, Nicci Campbell, and Diederik Bulters.
Publications highlight advancements in cytokine responses, genetic factors influencing outcomes, and assistive listening devices for hearing recovery.
