Ben Field is an Associate Professor of Diabetes & Endocrinology at the University of Surrey and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. He serves as the Caldicott Guardian for the University of Surrey, leading data governance, and as the NIHR KSS Clinical Research Network Specialty Lead for diabetes, metabolic, and endocrine disorders. He also directs the NHS England KSS Endocrinology & Diabetes Training Programme. His research focuses on gut hormone physiology, type 2 diabetes drug development, hypoglycaemia management, diabetic foot disease, vascular complications, respiratory issues in diabetes, steroid-induced hyperglycaemia, thyroid disease, and primary care prescribing practices. He actively contributes to clinical guideline development and chairs steering committees for national audits on diabetes and related therapeutics (e.g., GLP-1 agonists, tirzepatide).
Education: BMedSci, MBBS, MSc, PGCertULT, PhD, FRCP.
Recent publications highlight collaborative work on obesity treatment through thyroid hormone studies and levothyroxine’s role in infertility among euthyroid women. His work emphasizes translating research into clinical practice, particularly in metabolic disorders and endocrine health.
