معرفی
Dr. Ben Creagh-Brown is an Honorary Professor of Critical Care and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Surrey's School of Medicine, concurrently serving as a Consultant Intensivist at Royal Surrey County Hospital where he chairs the SPACeR group. His academic trajectory includes progression from Clinical Senior Lecturer (2016) to Reader (2019) before attaining his current professorial position. Prior affiliations include research at Royal Brompton Hospital/Imperial College London, where he completed his PhD.
Educational background:
- PhD, Imperial College London (2011)
- Bachelor of Medicine (BM), University of Southampton (1999)
Professor Creagh-Brown's research program centers on three interconnected domains: prevention of multisystem surgical complications (pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal); sepsis pathophysiology with emphasis on pneumonia; and endothelial cell dynamics in shock states. His methodological approach integrates clinical physiology, large-scale observational studies, interventional trials, and 'big data' analytics. Current projects investigate muscle wasting in major abdominal surgery, microvascular monitoring during hepatic resection, and cerebral oximetry applications.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2016-2019) reveals dominant themes in perioperative outcomes standardization, respiratory disease epidemiology, and critical care psychology. His collaborative work frequently contributes to national guidelines, particularly in ventilatory management and non-invasive ventilation protocols. Research consistently demonstrates translational focus, bridging mechanistic studies with clinical applications in high-risk surgical populations and critical illness.
Scientific awards: None reported.
Professor Creagh-Brown maintains an active supervision portfolio encompassing eight postgraduate researchers. Current doctoral projects address perioperative critical care, sepsis immunology, endothelial biology, and gastrointestinal surgery outcomes. He contributes to undergraduate medical education through structured teaching modules in respiratory and critical care medicine.
Collaborative networks include partnerships with Professor Christian Heiss (vascular biology) and Dr. Paola Campagnolo (endothelial pathophysiology). His clinical research operates through dedicated critical care teams at Royal Surrey Hospital, with national involvement in guideline development panels including the British Thoracic Society.
