Ben-Avraham Zvi is a Professor of Geophysics at the Department of Geophysics and Planetary Sciences, Tel Aviv University, where he has held positions since 1982. He also holds the Max Sonnenberg Professor of Marine Geoscience chair at the University of Cape Town since 1989 and served as Founding Director of the Charney School of Marine Sciences at the University of Haifa since 2007. His career spans institutions such as Stanford University, the Weizmann Institute of Science, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

His research focuses on continental margin dynamics, including tectonic processes at passive and active margins, fault systems like the Dead Sea and San Andreas faults, and collisional processes at plate boundaries. Key areas include marine geoscience and geodynamics of regions such as the eastern Mediterranean, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
Ben-Avraham’s contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2003 Israel Prize, Fellowships in the Geological Society of America and American Geophysical Union, and membership in the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
