Ben A. Heller is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame. His research and teaching focus on Latin American and Caribbean literature and culture, poetry, particularly the works of José Lezama Lima and the Orígenes group, environmental criticism, translation studies, crime narratives, and cultural theory. His scholarship primarily examines Cuban and Chilean literary traditions while maintaining broad interests throughout Latin America and the macro-Caribbean region.
Education includes an MA and PhD from Washington University in St. Louis and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Heller's publications demonstrate sustained engagement with translation theory, postcolonial literatures, and cultural criticism. His recent work explores the poetics of translation while earlier scholarship examines colonial discourse and Caribbean literary traditions.
