Behzad Soleimani, MD, is the John Anton and Marian Trescher Waldhausen Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at Penn State College of Medicine. He serves as Director of the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute Division of Cardiac Surgery. He joined the faculty in 2010 and became Surgical Director for Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support in 2015, establishing one of the nation's most successful heart transplant programs.
His research focuses on innovations in cardiac surgery, including minimally invasive LVAD replacement techniques, titanium plug closure post-LVAD removal, and ECMO-supported cardiogenic shock management. He holds a doctorate in transplantation immunology and has significantly improved cardiac surgery outcomes through quality initiatives.
