Prof. Bedrich Moldan is a Professor at Charles University in Prague and founder/director (1991–2014) of the Charles University Environment Center. He holds international roles such as former Chairman of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (2001) and European Environment Agency's Scientific Committee (2000–2006). His career includes serving as the first Minister of Environment of the Czech Republic (1990) and Senator (2004–2010). He is affiliated with multiple institutions including the Czech National Statistical Council and Engineering Academy.
Research focuses on sustainable development indicators, environmental policy frameworks, and science-policy integration. His work includes two influential monographs on sustainable development indicators commissioned by SCOPE (Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment). His leadership spans academic, governmental, and NGO sectors, including roles with the Czech Union of Nature Conservation and Regional Environmental Center in Budapest.
Current activities include overseeing the Environment Center's departments specializing in environmental education, economics, sustainability indicators, and behavioral research. He maintains active international collaborations and policy advisory roles.
