Becky Bergman

Becky Bergman is a Senior Lecturer in Language and Communication at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in intercultural communication within engineering education, globally networked communities, and content and language integrated learning. Her current teaching includes interventions in master's programs focused on intercultural communication, a diploma course on diversity and inclusion in higher education, and CLS045 Global and intercultural competence, which is open to all students at Chalmers.

Dr. Bergman's research interests primarily focus on intercultural communication in engineering education, examining how home and international students experience group work and integration. Her PhD project investigated "Home and international engineering students' experiences of intercultural group work." She has extensive expertise in content and language integrated learning (CLIL) and has led numerous pedagogical projects related to student writing guides, online learning materials, and integrated courses.

Her recent publications (2023-2024) demonstrate a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in engineering education, teacher professional development for culturally diverse classrooms, and strategies for integrating home and international students. Her work often examines practical applications through problem-based learning and project courses in engineering education contexts.

Becky Bergman is currently leading a research project from 2023-2025 titled "Educating the educators: professional development of academics for internationalisation at home," funded by The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT), which focuses on preparing faculty to teach in increasingly diverse classrooms.
