Bec Holmes is a Midwifery Lecturer at the University of Hull, Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Nursing and Midwifery. She joined the university in 2022, bringing extensive clinical experience from Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where she worked as a rotational and community midwife, Junior Sister, and in regional leadership roles related to maternity services. She is actively engaged in curriculum development and student support in midwifery education.

Her research interests focus on the development and training of Maternity Support Workers, midwifery education, breastfeeding and societal attitudes toward infant feeding, and improving care for vulnerable families. She is particularly committed to enhancing professional education and practice within maternal healthcare.
Bec Holmes is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, 2024) and has been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council since 2009. She is currently pursuing an MSc in Health Professions Education at Hull York Medical School starting September 2024, reflecting her dedication to advancing teaching practices in healthcare.
She has developed a new standalone module for Maternity Support Workers based on her regional scoping exercise (2020–2021) and serves as module leader for Essential Skills for Midwifery 6. She also teaches across various midwifery modules and acts as a link lecturer for the Labour Ward at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, facilitating strong academic-clinical partnerships.
She has been involved in significant service development, including the implementation of a new IT system in community midwifery and the creation of the region’s first Continuity of Carer Midwifery team. From 2021 to 2022, she served as the Alcohol Prevention Lead for the Local Maternity and Neonatal System, demonstrating leadership in public health within maternity care.
