Beatriz Mariano serves as a scientific collaborator at the Institute of Finance within Humboldt University of Berlin's Faculty of Business and Economics. She joined the Finance Group in 2018 and maintains her office at Dorotheenstraße 1, Room 301 in Berlin.
Her research focuses on three interconnected domains: Corporate Finance, examining capital structure and investment decisions; Corporate Governance, analyzing board composition and shareholder rights; and Financial Intermediation, studying the role of financial institutions in capital markets. These research strands reflect her interest in how institutional arrangements affect corporate behavior and financial markets.
Mariano's publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to top finance journals since 2012, with work appearing in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Services Research, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Applied Financial Economics. Her research shows an evolving trajectory from studying credit rating agencies and ownership structures toward more complex analyses of creditor rights and board independence, reflecting growing sophistication in corporate governance research.
Mariano has held previous positions at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the London School of Economics, Cass Business School in London, and visiting roles at the Bank of Portugal and European Central Bank. She earned her PhD in Finance from the London School of Economics, following a master's degree in Economics from the University of York and bachelor's degree from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
