Beatrice Smyth

Dr. Beatrice Smyth is a Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, affiliated with the Clean Energies Research Centre. Her research focuses on environmental sustainability, circular economy principles, and life cycle assessment in energy systems. She advises PhD students in sustainable energy, circular economy, biogas, and environmental life cycle assessment.

Research interests include microplastic pollution in drinking water, nutrient management in agricultural systems, and sustainable biofuel production. She collaborates across disciplines, engaging professionals from psychology, management, and public health.

Key publications in 2023–2025 address circular economy frameworks, sustainable food systems, and decarbonization strategies for shipping and aviation. Awards include the 2024 Highly Cited Paper Award and 2022 Highly Cited Review Paper. She leads projects on energy storage systems (DREAM project) and sustainable diets (Sus-Health).

Teaching roles include MSc Sustainable Energy Systems and PGCert Applied Renewable Energy. Grants and collaborations span EU and national initiatives, emphasizing interdisciplinary solutions for environmental challenges.
