Beate Roessler is a Professor of Ethics and its History at the Department of Philosophy, University of Amsterdam, where she also leads the Philosophy and Public Affairs group. She previously held positions as Socrates Professor at Leiden University (2004-2010), Associate Professor (1997-2009), and Assistant Professor at the University of Bremen (1994-1997).
Her research centers on ethics, moral philosophy, and social/political philosophy, with a particular emphasis on autonomy and privacy. She has contributed to interdisciplinary discourse through edited works like Social Dimensions of Privacy (Cambridge UP, 2015) and authored monographs including The Value of Privacy (Polity Press, 2005) and Autonomie: ein Versuch über das gelungene Leben (Suhrkamp, 2017).
