Dr. Beata Batorowicz is an Associate Professor at Queen's University's School of Rehabilitation Therapy within the Faculty of Health Sciences. She holds the email address beata.batorowicz@queensu.ca and leads research focused on enhancing social participation for children and young adults with disabilities through AAC and assistive technology. Her work includes international collaborations and accessibility guideline development.
Dr. Batorowicz earned her PhD in Rehabilitation Science from McMaster University, an MSc from Western University's Rehabilitation Science program, and a BSc in Occupational Therapy from Western University. Her research integrates clinical, community, and technological approaches to address participation barriers faced by individuals with disabilities.
Her research interests include AAC system design, social participation measurement, and inclusive service provision. Current projects explore life aspirations of young adults with disabilities, accessibility guidelines for AAC, and global health equity in disability care. She chairs the Research Committee of the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC) and serves as an associate editor for the AAC journal.
Dr. Batorowicz supervises graduate students in Rehabilitation Science programs and actively contributes to the Augmentative and Alternative Communication - Interaction and Technology Lab (AAC-IT). Her work emphasizes community-based solutions and participatory methodologies to ensure interventions are culturally responsive and user-centered.
