Başak Bilecen is a Professor of Sociology and Rosalind Franklin Fellow at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences and the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on migration, transnational social protection, and social inequalities, employing mixed-methods including personal network analysis. She has held positions at institutions like Bielefeld University and Harvard University, and leads projects funded by Volkswagen Foundation and NWO.
Key research themes include transnational networks' impact on inequality, migrant well-being, and policy implications. Notable grants include the MIG-AGE project (Volkswagen Foundation) and PROMISE initiative addressing loneliness among older migrants. Awards include the Karl Arnold Prize (2022) and John F.
