Başak Aru is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Division of Immunology at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Gebze Technical University and has contributed to research in immunology, cancer therapy, and nanotechnology-based biomedical applications.
- PhD: Molecular Biology & Genetics (Gebze Technical University, 2016-2021)
- MSc: Molecular Medicine (Yeditepe University, 2013-2016)
- BSc: Biology (Istanbul University, 2009-2013)
- BSc: Business Administration (Anadolu University, 2009-2016)
Her research focuses on immunology, photodynamic therapy, mesenchymal stem cells, and nanomaterials for tissue engineering. She explores the role of immune checkpoints in cancer treatment and develops novel phthalocyanine derivatives for chemo-photodynamic applications.
The 15 most recent articles highlight her work in oncology, neuroscience, and biomaterials, with subfields spanning checkpoint inhibitors, nanoparticle cytotoxicity, and hemostatic agents. She has collaborated on projects involving Valeriana species metabolites and iron/zinc nanoparticles for medical applications.
- Current projects include TUBITAK-funded studies on immune checkpoints in leukemia and HLA typing in kidney transplantation
- Active in translating phthalocyanine-based therapies to clinical settings
- Develops nanocellulose-based nerve scaffolds (COST-funded, 2015-2019)
