Başak Aray

Başak Aray is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Letters. She holds a Ph.D. from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, France, and her academic work bridges philosophy, history of science, and linguistics. Her research is deeply rooted in the intellectual traditions of logical empiricism and the Vienna Circle, with a focus on Otto Neurath, Rudolf Carnap, and the sociopolitical dimensions of scientific language.

Her research interests include the history of analytic philosophy, language planning, visual epistemology (especially Isotype), and international auxiliary languages. She explores how scientific knowledge can be democratized through accessible visual and linguistic forms. Her work investigates the philosophical underpinnings of constructed languages like Basic English, Esperanto, and Interglossa, and their connections to empiricist thought.

The analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the interplay between language, visualization, and scientific rationality.
