معرفی
Bauer Sumpio, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Surgery, Radiology, and Medicine at Yale University. He holds primary appointments in Vascular Surgery & Endovascular Therapy and is affiliated with the Diabetes Center, Yale Medicine, and Yale Ventures. His academic roles include Associate Director of Graduate Medical Education and leadership in professional societies like the American Surgical Association.
Dr. Sumpio completed his MD and PhD in Physiology at Cornell University, followed by residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of North Carolina. He leads the Vascular Surgery Research Laboratories, focusing on hemodynamic forces' role in vascular biology, including strain-induced signaling pathways in endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells. His team developed a cyclic strain apparatus to study gene expression changes in response to mechanical forces.
Research interests span atherosclerosis, diabetic foot complications, endovascular innovations, and AI applications in diagnosis. He has over 345 peer-reviewed publications and edited four books. Awards include Best Doctor in New York (2006-2016) and recognition from the Society for Vascular Surgery.
His clinical expertise includes minimally invasive vascular procedures, limb salvage for diabetic patients, and management of complex vascular diseases. Grants include continuous NIH, VA, and AHA funding since 1988. Collaborations with researchers like Joseph Madri and Alan Dardik focus on translational vascular biology and clinical outcomes.
