Dr. Basudev Sahoo is an Associate Professor at the School of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram, India. He holds a PhD (summa cum laude) from Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) Münster, Germany, and completed Leibniz Postdoctoral Fellowship at Leibniz-Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT), Germany, and Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship at Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ), Spain.
- Education: PhD (WWU Münster), MSc (IIT Kanpur), BSc (Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Calcutta University)
- Research Areas: Sustainable Organic Synthesis, Transition Metal-Based Organometallic Catalysis, Photocatalysis, and Metal-Free Coupling Reactions
Dr. Sahoo’s research focuses on photocatalytic C-C bond activation, transition metal catalysis, and metal-free coupling reactions, particularly using copper nanoclusters and nickel-photoredox synergistic systems. His work often integrates CO2 utilization and pro-aromatic intermediates for novel synthetic methodologies.
His 15 most recent articles (2023–2025) highlight advancements in photocatalytic C-H functionalization, metallaphotoredox decarboxylation, thio(seleno)esterification, and regioselective hydro(carbo)functionalization of complex molecules. These span keywords like Organic Synthesis, Nanotechnology, and Sulfur Chemistry.
- Scientific Awards: Thieme Chemistry Journals Award (2022), Marie Curie Fellowship, Springer Thesis Prize (2016), GATE-2011 All India Rank 1, NET Rank 14 (2010)
Dr. Sahoo mentors 9 PhD students and 4 Master’s students, including PMRF and UGC-SRF scholars. He teaches advanced courses in Modern Organic Synthesis, Advanced Organic Chemistry, and Modern Instrumental Methods at IISER TVM.
