Bassem Hosny

Bassem Hosny serves as Assistant Teaching Professor in Hebrew and Judaic Studies at the University of Oregon's School of Global Studies and Languages, where he directs the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies and provides academic advising.

His educational credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Hebrew Literature, Alexandria University (2013)
• Master's in Oriental Languages (Hebrew Specialization), Institute of Oriental Languages at Alexandria University (2008)
• Bachelor of Arts in Arabic Language and Literature & Oriental Languages and Literature (2005)

His research investigates Modern and Medieval Hebrew language and literature, Judeo-Arabic texts, and comparative Semitic linguistic structures. Specialized work examines phonetic and syntactic connections between Hebrew, Arabic, and Syriac, revealing deep historical linguistic relationships within Jewish cultural contexts.

As Program Director, he oversees curriculum development and student advising for Judaic Studies. Previous teaching appointments include Hebrew instruction at Alexandria University and dual-language instruction (Hebrew and Standard Arabic) at UNC Chapel Hill.
