Bassam Fattouh is a Professor at the School of Finance and Management (FIM) within SOAS University of London. He is a leading expert in Energy Economics, Financial Markets, and Political Economy, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
His research spans energy subsidies, electricity market reforms, renewable energy adoption, and the geopolitical implications of energy policies. He has authored numerous Journal Articles, Book Chapters, and Reports on topics such as the resource curse narrative, digitalization in electricity markets, and financial participation in commodity trading.
Recent publications include analyses of Italy’s post-pandemic financial fragility, Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund strategies, and the evolution of electricity markets in resource-rich economies. His work often integrates macro-finance models and quantitative methods to address energy policy challenges.
