Håvard Halland is a Professor of Sustainable Finance at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Business School. He holds the academic rank of Professor and serves as Chair in the School of Social Sciences. Prior to academia, he worked at multilateral organizations including the World Bank, OECD, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. His research focuses on the intersection of economics, finance, energy geopolitics, and climate/environmental issues, with a specialization in sovereign wealth funds, strategic investment funds, and sustainable development goals.
Education: PhD from the University of Cambridge, Visiting Scholar at Stanford University.
Research Interests: Strategic Investment Funds, Sovereign Wealth Fund Management, Climate-Resilient Finance, Extractive Industries Policy, and Infrastructure Financing. His work frequently addresses fiscal policy challenges in resource-rich economies and the low-carbon transition.
Publications span 18+ works, emphasizing climate-aligned investment strategies and fiscal implications of global economic shifts. Notable outputs include analyses of sovereign wealth fund roles in green transitions and fiscal management frameworks for resource-dependent economies.
