Prof. Bassam Alrifaee is a Professor of Adaptive Behavior of Autonomous Vehicles at the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich since March 2024. Previously, he served as a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at RWTH Aachen University's Chair of Informatik 11 – Embedded Software and founded the Cyber-Physical Mobility (CPM) group and CPM Lab. He holds a PhD in Automatic Control from RWTH Aachen University (2017) and a Diploma in Computer Science from the Technical University of Ilmenau.
His research focuses on distributed predictive control, service-oriented architectures, and applications to connected/automated vehicles. He has secured grants from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and federal ministries, leading projects in cooperative automobiles and digital twins of road systems. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches with societal impact.
Award-winning contributions include the Best Associate Editor Award (IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, 2023) and Senior Member status in IEEE. He also leads educational initiatives via RWTH's Exploratory Teaching Space. His CPM Lab nurtures talent, such as Patrick Scheffe who won the 2023 Young Research Award for transportation systems.
