Bas van der Vossen is a Professor of Philosophy and Associate Director at the Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy at Chapman University, California. He holds a D.Phil from the University of Oxford and Master's degrees in Science and Arts from the University of Amsterdam. His research focuses on political philosophy, with specific emphasis on global justice, property rights, libertarianism, and academic activism. He has authored and co-authored numerous influential works, including In Defense of Openness (2018) and Debating Humanitarian Intervention (2017), and co-edited key publications like The Routledge Handbook of Libertarianism (2017) and Economic Liberties and Human Rights (2019). As an Associate Editor for Social Philosophy and Policy, he contributes to academic discourse on justice, equality, and the moral foundations of political systems. His recent articles analyze the Lockean proviso, self-ownership, and the ethical dimensions of treating people as resources.
