Dr. Bas Cornelissen is a researcher at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) of the University of Amsterdam, where he completed his PhD in computational musicology in 2023. His research focuses on modeling musical structures using computational methods, particularly in plainchant analysis and music cognition.
Current affiliations include:
- PhD in computational musicology (2017–2023, UvA)
- Master's in Early Music Voice (2023–, Conservatorium van Amsterdam)
- Co-founder of early music group Tempera Mente
- Co-organizer of Steinberg’s Passion Week Dutch premiere (2023)
His research explores intersections between music, cognition, and algorithmic analysis, with projects like Measuring Musics (2024) and Chant21 (2020). Scientific awards include the ASML Technology Scholarship and ISMIR 2020 Best Paper Award.
Bas has supervised students in AI and Logic programs and taught courses on probability, neural modeling, and music cognition. He developed open-source tools like chant21 and gatsby-source-publications for music and data analysis.
