Henkjan Honing is a full professor at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) of the University of Amsterdam. He holds primary affiliation with the Language & Music Cognition (LMC) group and secondary affiliation with Epistemology & Philosophy of Science (EPS).
His research lies at the intersection of music cognition and language cognition, exploring how humans acquire, process, and understand musical structures and how these processes relate to linguistic abilities. Philosophical questions on the nature of musical knowledge and its epistemological status are also central to his work.
Currently, he leads the project "Unravelling our capacity for music", which aims to deepen our understanding of the cognitive and philosophical foundations of musical experience.
