Bart Simon is a Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University, and Director of the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology. He co-founded the Technoculture, Art and Games (TAG) research centre. His work bridges game studies, science and technology studies, and cultural sociology, focusing on game cultures, socio-materiality, and everyday life.
Simon holds a PhD from the University of California, San Diego. His current research explores immersive theatre, materialities of play, and Minecraft communities, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Notable projects include SunBlock One, a solar-powered Minecraft server integrating renewable energy education, and studies on indie game scenes and modding cultures.
His academic contributions span over 40 publications, including works on digital culture, liveness in performance, and the cultural politics of gaming. Simon actively engages in public scholarship through exhibitions, workshops, and interdisciplinary collaborations, emphasizing community-driven research and sustainability.
