Professor Bart Los holds the Chair of Economics of Technological Progress and Structural Change at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. He is affiliated with the Groningen Growth and Development Centre (GGDC) and serves as a member of the International Input-Output Association Council. His research focuses on global value chains, international trade, technology spillovers, and productivity growth, with contributions to prominent journals like the American Economic Review and IMF Economic Review.
Education: MSc in Econometrics (University of Groningen, 1992), PhD in Economics (University of Twente, 1999). Current roles include Research Director of the Global Economics & Management Department and Workpackage Leader in EU-funded projects like GI-NI and TWIN SEEDS. He has supervised over ten PhD students and contributed to initiatives like the World Input-Output Database (WIOD) and the Productivity Institute (UK).
Research emphasizes structural decomposition analysis, input-output modeling, and the economic impacts of globalization. Notable projects include analyzing Brexit effects, global supply chain fragmentation, and regional inequality dynamics in China. Awards include Clarivate’s Highly Cited Researcher designation (2020, 2022).
Teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses on trade policy, technological innovation, and growth empirics. He has delivered guest lectures globally, including at Rutgers University and the International School of Input-Output Analysis in Seoul and Mexico City.
