Barcley Johnson is an Instructor of Management at the Department of Management, part of Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business. He holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (with honors) and a B.A. from Western Michigan University. His teaching focuses on entrepreneurship and business model design, while his research explores venture capital dynamics, angel capital mechanisms, new venture valuation, and the study of failure in business contexts. Johnson actively engages with local communities through organizations like the Rotary and St. Joseph-Benton Harbor Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce.
With a career spanning over two decades, he began at WMU-Southwest regional location in 1998 and has since contributed extensively to business education. His early career included hands-on agricultural business experience at his grandparents' City Limits Dairy Farm, where he gained insights into operational management and market dynamics. Johnson currently owns multiple businesses, including a consulting corporation, which informs his pedagogical approach.
