Barbro Bredesen Opset is an Associate Professor at Østfold University College’s Department of Language, Literature and Culture. She holds a PhD in Nordic Literature from the University of Oslo (2017) with a dissertation on national representations in Norwegian cultural monuments. Her research spans ecocriticism, cosmopolitanism, children’s literature, and Nordic identity studies.
Her academic interests include:
- Norwegian/Nordic fiction and poetry
- Interart studies and contemporary art
- Sustainable development in education
- Cultural encounters and globalization
Opset actively contributes to projects like Finnskogen's literature and anthologies on class in literature. She co-leads research networks including the Ecocritical Network for Scandinavian Studies (ENSCAN) and the National Research Network for Sustainability and Education (NABU).
Her publications frequently explore themes of migration, environmental ethics, and national identity in contemporary Scandinavian literature, with recent work analyzing ecocosmopolitanism and youth literature.
