Dr.-Ing. Barbara Wendler is a researcher at the DVGW Research Centre, Technische Universität Hamburg, specializing in advanced water treatment technologies. Her primary affiliation is with the Institute of Water Resources and Water Supply. Her work focuses on removing inorganic/organic contaminants, optimizing membrane filtration systems (MF/UF/NF/RO), and developing sustainable water treatment solutions for industrial and municipal applications.
Key research areas include sulfate removal from groundwater, decolorization of humic-rich waters via ozonation, and antiscalant efficacy in RO systems. She has led projects funded by BMWi, BMBF, and DVGW, including the FITWAS project on filter backwash water reuse and SafeCREW initiatives addressing water treatment challenges. Her contributions span process engineering concepts, membrane stability analysis, and adsorption-based metal recovery technologies.
- Consulting projects: Nanofiltration system testing, industrial wastewater recycling
- Publications: Over 30 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings since 2000
- Grants: Multiple federal and industry-funded research projects
Her team collaborates on the DVGW Research Centre’s core mission to advance drinking water treatment safety and efficiency, with particular emphasis on scaling inhibition, biofouling prevention, and sustainable concentrate management strategies.
