Barbara Weigl is a Lecturer at the Department of Care Management, Protestant University for Applied Sciences Berlin, and a Research Fellow at Evangelische Hochschule Berlin. She specializes in gerontology, long-term care systems, and social welfare policy. Her work focuses on self-determined aging, care arrangements in long-term settings, and intergenerational learning. She has held research roles in EU-funded projects analyzing health systems and elder care across Europe.
Education:
- Postgraduate Studies in Gerontology (1996-1999, Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg)
- Social, Political, and Educational Sciences (1991-1996, Goethe University Frankfurt)
Research interests include legal frameworks for elderly care, prevention of elder abuse, and benchmarking residential care facilities. Her projects compare Germany and the UK in care arrangements and health systems interfaces. She has contributed to parliamentary health policy work for the Greens in Berlin.
Advising and Grants: Core contributor to EU Leonardo and Interlinks projects, and affiliated with WZB's Public Health Research Group. Active in policy recommendations for volunteer roles in legal guardianship and elder welfare advocacy.
