Prof. Barbara Sue Ryden is a Professor of Astronomy at The Ohio State University since 1992, affiliated with the Department of Astronomy. She specializes in cosmology, galaxy formation, and large-scale structure of the universe, with notable research on dark energy and dark matter. Ryden is renowned for her textbooks Introduction to Cosmology (winner of the Chambliss Award) and Foundations of Astrophysics (co-authored with Bradley Peterson). She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Ohio State Astrophysics Series, including volumes like Interstellar & Intergalactic Medium and Stellar Structure & Evolution.
Education: PhD in Astrophysical Sciences (Princeton University, 1988), B.S. in Physics (Northwestern University, 1983). Postdoctoral work at CfA and CITA. Active in teaching advanced courses like Astronomy 822 (Electromagnetic Radiation) and undergraduate courses such as Astronomy 143 (Cosmology History). Serves as a facilitator at AstroCoffee and contributes to departmental curriculum development.
